What a busy month we have had. What with Easter, the Hot Air Balloons Fiesta, School Holidays and now the V8s it is all go here in Hamilton.

Fabric is still flooding in. We plan to have a few extra shelves put in to accommodate the huge range of flannel fabrics we will be getting in over the next month. Thanks to the people who make our Kiwiana fabrics, they have made it easy for everyone to personalize the back of our quilts with a little bit of N.Z. We have got a panel of 9 quilt labels all with different touches of Kiwiana for just $4.90.

The children’s classes over the holidays were once again very successful – have a look at the photos on the blog – all the children went home with finished frogs and pillows plus big smiles on their faces.

Last year about this time we were very lucky to have Gloria Loughman from Australia visit the Studio and present a workshop as well as a very informative lecture. Her workshop was very successful and many of you have been asking if she could come back. Well the great news is yes, she will be here again about this time next year. We have no definite dates or workshops yet but if you are interested let us know and we will forward any information off to you as it comes to hand. Last year her classes filled in a couple of days. In the meantime you can see the results of her workshop with us on our website or you could visit Gloria’s website on www.glorialoughman.com.

We are offering a repeat of our hands on workshop for new owners of Husqvarna Sapphire machines. If you have not done this class with Ashleigh before it is well worth it as it covers a lot of the basics which we tend to forget about.

Saturday 24 April 9.30am-11.30am Husqvarna Sapphire Basics and Beyond $15
This is a hands on class (so you will need to bring your machine) and we will run over the basics of the Sapphire machine and teach you more about just what it can do.

Saturday 24 April 12.30pm-2.30pm $35 Make Your Own Quilt Labels
Just come along to class and everything will be provided for you to be able to go home with four completed quilt labels. Fun and easy. Ashleigh will help you to individualize your labels by coloring in with Pigma Pens.

Saturday 1 May and Saturday 8 May 12.30pm-2.30pm Jewels of the Pacific $65
Create your own unique pacific inspired small wallhanging. This workshop has been inspired by my recent exhibition “Jewels of the Pacific” in which I developed this quick and easy method of putting together a small art quilt. A variety of patterns will be available in class for you to use as a starting point, however you will be encouraged to individualize these designs to create your small quilt using fusible raw edged appliqué technique and free form quilting. Also included in this workshop is no-sew fusible mitred binding. This workshop is suitable for all levels of quilters.

Saturday 22 May 12.30pm-2.30pm Free Form Machine Quilting $65
This class is suitable for all levels, from students who are new to free form machine quilting to those who may have done some machine quilting and are ready to take on new “challenges.

Saturday 12 June 9.30am-4.00pm Scrap Saver Quilt In a Day Waste Knot $65
Waste not, want not! No problem! Use up your scraps and 2 ½” fabric strips or this quilt can be made using a Jelly Roll with this fun and easy to make quilt. Work with what you have and select a striking background to compliment this simple pieced pattern. Traditional or contemporary, soft and subtle or bold and bright – hey, why not! Precut your fabrics before class.

Studio Opening Hours:
Monday to Friday 9.30am to 5.00pm and Saturday 9.30am to 3.00pm.
Closed on Sunday and Public Holidays.

Happy quilting.
