Happy New Year to you all. Christmas is now behind us and I am sure we have a wonderful year to look forward to. We are now back to normal hours but will not be open on Auckland Anniversary Day, Monday 1 February. However, we will be open on Waitangi Day, Saturday 6 February. Over the break Ashleigh and I have been busy working on new shop samples from some of the new fabrics and patterns we have received recently. Because of this we are once again selling some of our older quilt samples that we no longer require at very good prices. Check them out at on the Studio’s walls.

Have you seen our new range of children’s clothing patterns from “Pink Fig” and “Izzy & Ivy”. We were so impressed with these two talented designers when we visited Houston recently that we now carry a large selection of their designs. Check out the Pink Fig website on www.pinkfig.typepad.com and blog at www.vcbdesign.blogspot.com.

“Machine Quilting Unlimited” the magazine especially devoted to domestic and long arm machine quilters, is now being published 6 times a year and is getting better and better and growing in popularity. To ensure you don’t miss out you can order your copy from us now. The next issue is due in store this week.

We have just received a shipment of “Glimpses of New Zealand” a book by Gail Lawther. This is a wonderful book written by a British Patchworker after her visit to New Zealand in 2008. The book features 35 banner type quilts patterns influenced by her travels as well as a running commentary and many photos of the places she visited.

Another new book just in is “Fabric Art Collage” by Rebekah Meier. This book covers over 40 different mixed media techniques with step by step illustrations.

We have just had notification that Gloria Loughman’s eagerly awaited second book “Quilted Symphony” is due out in March/April this year. If you would like us to reserve you a copy we are now taking orders.

With the New Year we have a new block of the month available. “Piece, Love and Applique” includes pieced blocks and whimsical appliqué which come together to create this fabulous quilt. Finished size is 62” x 82”. This is a twelve month Block of the Month, first month costs $90 + P&P, with the next eleven months at $30 + P&P per month. This is an optional extra of 6 reels matching Robison Anton Rayon Threads for $65.00.

Saturday Sampler starts again on 20 February and we are taking enrolments up to the starting date. This year the four colourways available are: Kiwiana on Cream, Pretty Florals on Cream, Tropical Batiks on Black and Black and White with Pink on Black. The cost is $45 for the year.
We are offering this programme for out-of-towners and groups who cannot attend the Studio.
Individuals - $85 per year (includes postage).
Groups of 10 or more - $55 per year (includes postage). The groups kits will be posted each month to one nominated member of the group who will also be responsible for ensuring the groups blocks get made each month. For more information please contact the Studio.

Create your own unique pacific inspired small wallhanging. This workshop has been inspired by my recent exhibition “Jewels of the Pacific” in which I developed this quick and easy method of putting together a small art quilt. A variety of patterns will be available in class for you to use as a starting point, however you will be encouraged to individualize these designs to create your small quilt using fusible raw edged appliqué technique and free form quilting. Also included in this workshop is no-sew fusible mitred binding. This workshop is suitable for all levels of quilters.
